Grass dancing showcases native culture, tradition

Many students at Central Michigan University take pride in calling themselves “Chippewas.”

But for Makwa Stevens, a direct descendent of the Chippewa/Ojibwe Indian tribe, the word bears greater meaning.

“My grandfather was Red Arrow and has been dancing since he was a baby,” the Mount Pleasant resident said.
