Clock is a tickin' on graduation reservations

Time is running out.

Students who are graduating, if you have not already, make sure you book your lodging and dinner reservations.

The week leading up to the May 9 commencement will be a rush of appointments and reservations made by excited seniors and their parents at hotels and restaurants in and around the Mount Pleasant area.

Keisha, 37, who is the athletic director at Sacred Heart Academy and the boys' head basketball coach, has dealt with breast cancer for the past two years.

For many, the past few months have been full of “yes we can” moments, but behind all of the hype and glamour, how has President Barack Obama performed in his first 100 days in office?

“It's one of those things that you can't exactly go up to a door and go 'I'd like to apply to be a game show host,' so it's my career goal,” he said.

First state case of swine flu possibly found

Swine flu may already be in Michigan and area hospitals are prepared for the virus.

A swine flu case in Livingston County has been identified as “probable,” said Kurt Weiss, a public information officer for the Michigan State Joint Information Center.

Cases are not confirmed until it goes to the Center for Disease Control in Georgia, he said.

Salma Ghanem named next CCFA dean

The search for Central Michigan University's College of Communication and Fine Arts dean is nearly over.

Salma Ghanem, chairwoman of the communications department at the University of Texas-Pan American, accepted the position last week and was selected by Provost Julia Wallace over fellow position finalist Jack Bowman, who is dean of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

About 13 vehicles damaged near Towers

The Central Michigan University Police Department is investigating multiple incidents of damage to vehicles in lots 42 and 44, located near the Towers Residence Halls.

“It was mostly mirrors on cars that were knocked off,” said CMU Police Chief Stan Dinius.

Openly gay CMU employee appointed to Northern Mich. Board of Trustees

Garnet Lewis, associate director of Professional Education, is surprised at the press attention she is getting for being “just a regular ol' fashion girl.”

As the first openly gay person appointed to a governance board for a Michigan university in April, Lewis said she has always been open.

Thursday pancake breakfast serves as fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network

With the allure of pancakes, charity and brotherhood, Frankenmuth sophomore Kraig Haubenstricker knew he could not stay away.

Haubenstricker decided to join Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity after attending one of the group's pancake breakfasts. He said the friendly atmosphere and fraternity's commitment to giving back impressed him.
