No energy price hike

Baseball team aided by two big innings

The baseball team used two big offensive innings and effective pitching to take two of three games from Buffalo during its weekend series.

The Chippewas scored five runs in the first inning of the series opener on Friday to win 5-2. In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, CMU scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to win 7-3.

CMU looks to settle Tony DiTucci sexual harassment lawsuit today

Central Michigan University will likely settle a sexual harassment lawsuit involving two former women's soccer players and the team's former coach for $450,000 today, said the players' attorney.

Two former players sued the university and former coach Tony DiTucci in February, alleging he engaged in inappropriate communication and conduct during his time at CMU.

Former women's track member Kaelyn Carson died after complications with anorexia nervosa in 2001.

Eight years later, the team still hosts a fundraiser in her name, but not only for Carson's memory. The annual Walk-A-Thon aims to educate students and community members about the illness.

Fire destroys two businesses on Pickard St.

Two businesses were destroyed Sunday morning when a fire raged through 1300 E. Pickard St.

The building housed a John Deere store, 1300A E. Pickard St., and Brandt Agency-Farm Bureau Insurance. The building caught on fire shortly before 6 a.m., according to Mount Pleasant Fire Department Chief Greg Walterhouse.

Borrelli expected rebuilding year for wrestling team

The wrestling team finished 14th in the NCAA Tournament, won the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the eighth year in a row and was 17-3-1 overall in dual meets this season.

Two men charged in CMU car larcenies

Two men were arrested this week and charged for multiple larcenies from vehicles in four Central Michigan University parking lots.

According to a press release, an 18-year-old Alma man and a 19-year-old Vestaburg man were arrested by CMU Police with assistance from the Alma Police Department.

Offensive struggles frustrate softball team

The softball team failed to generate enough offense during the opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play, losing three of four.

“We've got to score runs,” coach Margo Jonker said. “We've got to hit the ball and we did not do well with that.”

The music was contagious.

The blaring, booming and thumping of beats rushed through the audience and into the aisles, bringing the people to their feet.

Saturday evening in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium, the “Battle Grounds 'Michigan' Dance Competition,” stirred up the crowd with its fast- paced tempos and challenging dance moves.

Legacy Program seeks out-of-staters

Before attending CMU, John Waters had not lived a day in Michigan.

But the Georgia senior receives in-state tuition because his father took classes at CMU's satellite campus in Atlanta.

“I wanted to be a teacher and (CMU) has a great teaching program,” Waters said.
