Michigan 27, No. 9 Wisconsin 25

The Wolverines pulled out an impressive victory in the 500th game at Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines found themselves down 19 points at halftime, but pulled off the biggest comeback in Big House history. U-M (2-2 overall, 1-0 Big Ten) scored early in the fourth quarter on a 34-yard run by Brandon Minor.

Soccer coach DiTucci on indefinite leave

Coach Tony DiTucci was noticeably absent on the sidelines of Friday's women's soccer game against Ball State at the CMU Soccer Complex.

Not long after, Athletics Director Dave Heeke released a statement.

“Central Michigan University women's soccer coach Tony DiTucci is on an indefinite leave,” it read.

Freshmen dropout rate at 30 percent

With freshman class sizes gradually increasing, the percentage of freshmen who do not return to CMU has remained relatively constant.

More than 30 percent of freshmen do not return to CMU after one year.

According to the Office of Institutional Research, out of the 3,771 students in the 2007 freshman class, only 77.

Age changes faces, not brotherhood

More than 50 Lambda Chi Alpha alumni returned to Central Michigan University to tailgate and celebrate 30 years of brotherhood this past weekend.

“It's been fabulous. We are going to do this on a more regular basis,” said Tim Harrison, a 1976 alumnus.

The men came to the reunion from 17 states and two countries, he said.

Field hockey continues struggle

The field hockey team ended its longest road trip of the season without a single victory.

CMU lost 4-3 to Kent State on Saturday and 4-3 to defending Mid-American Conference champion Ohio on Friday to drop to 0-4 on the road trip and 1-7 on the season.

Slow starts to each game doomed the Chippewas, who found themselves in two-goal deficits in the first half of each loss.

Sigma Pi charter revoked, off campus for next four years

Social fraternity Sigma Pi will not exist at Central Michigan University for the next four years.

The fraternity's status as a Registered Student Organization was revoked during a summer hearing because the fraternity had three violations against the Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities and Disciplinary Procedures last spring.

University Art Gallery repairs cost $41,000

Repairs to the University Art Gallery have cost $41,000 so far and are nearing completion.

The building was closed for repairs after two underground lines began to leak. Because of the repairs, the opening faculty art exhibit was postponed to the spring.

“Visual Narratives: Reading between the Lines” is the exhibit scheduled to inaugurate the art gallery this semester Oct.

Yung Joc uses other artists' music to fill his performance

Apparently Yung Joc forgot that he should perform his own music.

For the majority of the concert in Friday's Finch Fieldhouse performance, the 2007 Grammy-nominated rapper sang karaoke on hits from a variety of other artists.

It was obvious before the concert Yung Joc simply doesn't have enough well-known songs to fill an entire show.

By the beginning of October, Progressive Future hopes to register 2,500 Central Michigan University students to vote.

“It's our future,” said Progressive Future volunteer and Central Lake senior Sarah Hayes. “You can't complain if you don't try to make a difference.

Big plays hurt team late, but defense comes up big in win

Sam Williams felt like he was experiencing the football team's heart-breaking loss to Purdue all over again Saturday.

It was a few inches that made sure the junior defensive end could exhale in relief.

“That was the most nervous I had ever been in my life,” Williams said about Buffalo kicker A.

Faculty picket at game

About 100 faculty picketed over contract negotiations with Central Michigan University administration before Saturday's football game.

From about 2:30 p.m. to the start of the game, faculty chanted, holding signs outside the main entrance of Kelly/Shorts Stadium in another picket regarding the dispute.

Odd-man rush, turnovers help Michigan outlast club hockey

The CMU club hockey team could not overcome enough early mistakes to salvage a win against the University of Michigan on Friday.

Goaltender Matt Ellis bailed Central out with key saves in the first period. However, turnovers and odd-man rushes overwhelmed the team in a 10-3 loss.

Last of four students disciplined in credit card scam

Former Central Michigan University basketball player Chase Edward Simon was the last of four to be sentenced for running up more than $1,000 on a stolen credit card this spring.

Simon, 19, of Detroit, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty on Aug. 25 to use of a financial transaction device without consent and illegal use of a financial transaction device.
