Hunter receives maximum

James Jerome Hunter's last words in an Isabella County courtroom Thursday morning were directed toward his family and friends.

“I love you,” he said.

Hunter, 19, received the maximum capped sentence, 25 to 37 and a half years in prison, for his involvement in the New Year's Day beating of James Ronald Williams outside O'Kelly's Sports Bar & Grill, 2000 S.

Scammer seeks Isabella Bank account info

An individual has been calling residents and claiming to be a security officer for Isabella Bank to gain personal information, Mount Pleasant Police Department reports indicate.

The individual, who is said to be male, will have limited information about the potential victim's name or account, said Dave Sabuda, MPPD public information officer.

Coach Karen Lutzke may use the performances at today's opening competition to determine which runners take part in future meets.

The cross country team competes today in the Jeff Drenth Memorial at 4 p.m. on the 5K course at University Park.

“They want a spot on our varsity team,” Lutzke said.

Tailgating fight ends in maced participant

A male in a white undershirt was maced Thursday night while trying to leave tailgating in lot 63.

Police officers came to the location when a fight started between tailgaters.

“There was an individual that was fighting with some officers; an officer then pepper sprayed or maced that individual,” said CMU Police Officer Jeff Card, who was not there but was on duty.

University Health Services will offer walk-in flu vaccinations for $25 in late September or early October.

Tray-less, save more

Parking change leads to 129 tickets Monday

Parking Services issued more than 129 parking tickets to vehicles wrongfully parked in lot 62E within the first two days of classes.

The tickets were issued between 2 a.m. Monday morning to Tuesday at midnight, said CMU Police Chief Stan Dinius.

Restricted parking violations cost the vehicle's owner $25.

Bellore starts right where he left off

The women's soccer team will try to keep its perfect record against the Big 12 when it travels to Norman, Okla. for tonight's game against Oklahoma.

The team's only other match-up against the conference came in 2006 - and ended with a come-from-behind 2-1 CMU win against the University of Nebraska.

Get Acquainted Day attracts large, diverse crowd

Farmington Hills junior Dan MacHue said riding the mechanical bull at Get Acquainted Day was something more students should try.

“It's great,” MacHue said. “I think this is something everyone should do at least once.”

The 30th annual Get Acquainted Day on Wednesday at Warriner Mall included the mechanical bull and a carnival-like atmosphere, as well as tables of organizations with which students could get involved.

Class drop/add ends today

Today is the last day students can drop a class and receive a full tuition refund. Monthly account balances including Phase I tuition are due next Friday. Late fees will be assessed if payment is not received by 5 p.

I find it offensive I was even made to go to this!

The stereotypes were over the top to the point it was sad and offensive.

It was offensive to think that any of us needed 'training'

I am here to study and get a degree not watch university flunkies put on bad skits.
