Network Neutrality Act

The following editorial appeared in the San Jose Mercury News on Friday, Feb. 22:

The Internet has spawned tremendous choice and innovation for consumers and businesses.

But that would change if the phone and cable giants played favorites in who uses their broadband networks, and how they're used.

Money gives me power

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I make all kinds of money writing this column.

Do you know how much money I make because if you do then you know that I make all kinds of money and if you know that money is power then you know that since I have money I have power and that with my power I can do basically anything I want including run on sentences that never seem to come to any kind of conclusion because hey who needs conclusions when you have MONEY and also who needs punctuation marks when you have MONEY?

You may not know that here at Central Michigan Life the geniuses and artists who fill the pages writing about themselves get paid by the word and because of that I like to use a lot of words to make little to no point at all in fact I learned in all those philosophy classes I've taken that one should start with a minute idea and expound upon that idea to the fullest degree possible in order for one's knowledge to show its full potential so I'm taking that idea and applying it to my columns in a pseudo-philosophy I like to call COLUMNISM wherein I write and write about nothing but the difference between this pseudo-philsophy and other pseudo-philosophies such as Ayn Rand's slaughtering of the concept of objectivism is that this one understands and accepts the fact that it's not a real philosophy.

No Smoking

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

It's fairly common knowledge that smoking is bad for your health.

But if you're a professor, a Michigan senator's recent proposal could make it bad for your career.

Sen. Thomas George, R-Kalamazoo, suggested universities avoid hiring professors who smoke because it drives up health care costs.
