Helping end hunger
State food drive collects donations to support regional food banks
The Harvest Gathering food drive collected a total of 31,910 pounds of food and $1,300 in cash donations. The drive, sponsored by the Michigan Department of State, collected donations from employees and customers.

Scott, Hawkins receive jail sentence

Dexter M. Scott blew a kiss to his mother as he left the courtroom to begin his jail term Monday at the Isabella County Courthouse.

Oakland County Judge Thomas Brookover sentenced the former Central Michigan University student to four months in jail and five years probation for his role in the June 11, 2007 break-in at Microchips.

Granholm: State puts emphasis on education

LANSING - Gov. Jennifer Granholm said during her sixth State of the State Address that she's planning improvements to the state's education and economy.

“We will reward colleges and universities as they help students graduate,” Granholm said. “We need to bring students from lower incomes to higher education.

Hoag: I saw them beat the victim

Marla Hoag watched from the front seat of her GMC Envoy as her boyfriend and his friend punched and stomped James Ronald Williams on New Year's Day outside O'Kelly's Sports Bar & Grill.

Hoag testified Monday afternoon during a more than four-hour preliminary examination at the Isabella County Courthouse that she drove her boyfriend James Jerome Hunter and his friend Raymond Demetrius Jones back to her apartment following the assault.

Former assistant professor admits to child molestation

A former Central Michigan University physician assistant professor's fate involving five counts each of first and second degree criminal sexual conduct could be determined today.

Alan Bruce Corbin admitted in a video shown during his trial Tuesday to sexually molesting five children during his adulthood.

Penalope Cook, physician and associate director of University Health Services, said this year's flu strain is more resistant to vaccination based on the flu from the previous year.

Police seek help in rash of burglaries

2010 vision plan on track

Central Michigan University's 2010 initiative is on track and meeting the majority of its goals.

Catherine Riordan, vice provost of Academic Affairs and co-chair of the Institutional Strategic Planning Committee, announced during an open forum Tuesday that approximately two-thirds of the objectives set for the plan in 2004 currently are being realized.
