A campus thriller
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007It wasn't just the autumn weather sending chills up the spines of students taking part in the annual “Legends of the Dark” haunted campus tour.
About 300 guests got ushered to the spooky spots on CMU's campus Monday and Tuesday nights.
“It's all about ghost stories,” said Patrick Higgins, Richmond sophomore.
Lewis pleads no contest to charges
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007Spencer Lewis pleaded no contest Tuesday afternoon to involuntary manslaughter following a pretrial conference.
Lewis faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a minimum of probation, said Isabella County Prosecutor Larry Burdick.
“It was people like Spencer, who wanted to get a few kicks in, which emboldened the others to join in,” he said.

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007Central Michigan University has absolved Pam Gates of all wrong doing in an Oct. 15 incident with a student.
Barbara Taylor, interim Affirmative Action Officer, completed the administration's investigation of the incident between Gates, interim dean of the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Topinabee junior Dennis Lennox II.
Into the 'real' world

It happened to George Ghattas, a former tight end for the football team from 1994 to 1998, who now works as a commercial real estate broker in Chicago for Marcus & Millichap.
Haunted yard scares kids

Mount Pleasant resident Cari Edgerly-Griffes said she and her daughter, Megan, have made coming to the Haunted Yard a yearly tradition.
Spears' 'Blackout' down and dirty

“Blackout” is filthy, dirty pop.
Gone are the slick, over-produced ballads from her innocent years. The production is minimalist, fuzzy electro-pop, with distorted drums and buzzy synthesizers buttressing Britney's trademark vocal style.

Roethlisberger along with her husband, Mike Roethlisberger, director of Internal Audit at CMU, has operated a “haunted yard” out of her backyard for more than 10 years.

One of those is Milan senior Clarence Richardson, who has been volunteering at the kitchen for more than a year.
“I had some spare time and I wanted to help the community in any way I could,” Richardson said.
Soccer looking to play spoiler role in Ypsilanti

Central Michigan University men's and women's basketball teams will host Rose Rowdie Fright Night from 8:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today in Rose Arena. Those who attend will get to meet the basketball teams and coaches Ernie Zeigler and Sue Guevara.
Boo humbug

Like many of the other yearly celebrations, Halloween has been usurped by marketing.
Once an opportunity for young people to pretend to be someone else, while guiltlessly consuming as much sugar as possible, Halloween now is just another excuse for adults to go shopping.
Babb sentenced to prison
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007Thomas D. Babb may spend the final days of his life looking through the iron bars of a prison cell - that is, unless he lives past his 90th birthday.
The 38-year-old Evart man left the Isabella County Jail on Tuesday morning and was transported to the Southern Michigan Correctional Facility in Jackson, where he began serving a lengthy prison sentence for his involvement in the shooting death of his estranged wife earlier this year.
