Soccer opens MAC play against Ball Sate

The soccer team begins its Mid-American Conference season today after a rugged stretch of games.

CMU used a tough non-conference schedule featuring teams such as Illinois State, Michigan State and Niagara to prepare for MAC play. But to coach Tony DiTucci and the rest of the team, CMU's season is all about winning the MAC.

The Chippewas (1-3 overall, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) get their chance to end the streak at noon Saturday at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

SGA goes to Lansing

Lansing - The Student Government Association put a face on higher education funding Wednesday morning at the State Capitol.

SGA members traveled to Lansing to lobby for higher education and equal funding for the state's 15 public universities. The five-member group met with individual legislators to persuade them to include higher education funding when looking at the budget.

Furniture

CMU hosts surplus sale today

CMU will host a surplus sale from 12 to 2 p.m. today in campus parking lot No. 1 across the street from Trout Hall. The event, open to the public, will sell items including surplus furniture, equipment, vehicles and more.

White Pine releases album

This is not your parents' classical music.
Tuesday marked the release of CMU's White Pine Music label's “Take the A Train” by the Harlem Quartet.
The album stands to be White Pine's biggest release yet.
“To even play in Carnegie Hall is considered the pinnacle of a classic musicians career,” said Scott Burgess, White Pine Music founder and manger of audio production.

Service fee now on hold

Carl Thomas is not happy with the price of football tickets at Central Michigan University.

More specifically, the alumnus objects to the $5 service fee.

Thomas said he first noticed the fee when he bought tickets for the first home game.

“I can understand the $3 increase, (ticket prices went) from $17 to $20,” Thomas said.

Jones, players ignore outside gossip, rumors

There were noticeable differences at Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Wednesday after the football team finished practice.

CMU's 44-14 loss to North Dakota State seemed like a distant memory as players stayed after practice to help each other with techniques. The scene held a swagger that hadn't been present since December's Motor City Bowl.

Student will run marathon for cancer

Joseph Wezner was 16 years old when his father died from cancer.

His grandmother and uncle also died from the disease within the last eight years.

The Macomb senior will run in the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon Oct. 21 for Gilda's Club.

“It's a great cause, almost everyone has been affected by cancer in some way shape or form,” Wezner said.

Dan LeFevour had a hard time getting comfortable last Saturday with North Dakota State's pass rush.

Things won't get easier for the sophomore quarterback this week against Northern Illinois right end Larry English.

English is coming off a five-sack game in a 42-35 win last week at Idaho.
